Pipette Maintenance

1. Regular pipette maintenance and servicing
In theory, the maintenance frequency for pipettes should be maintained at 6-12 months/time. This is only a rough guide; depending on your requirements for accuracy, you will need to service them more frequently. Normal pipette maintenance calibration includes initial calibration of the pipette, cleaning, greasing of wearable parts and replacement of any worn seals or other parts. 2.

2. Spot check pipettes before each experiment
Check the front of the pipette for any obvious damage. If there is a problem, report it promptly and do not work with a fault.

3. Clean the pipettes before use each day
Pipettes should be wiped with some 70% ethanol. 4.

4. Store pipettes vertically using the pipette holder
Storing the pipettes in this way prevents any liquid from the pipette barrel from entering the pipette and causing corrosion. 8.

8. Never place the pipette on the side with the liquid in the tip
Only air can separate the liquid from the pipette during use. Any liquid in the pipette can therefore lead to contamination and even serious corrosion damage due to back-siphoning of the liquid.

9. Ensure that the pipette tips are well matched and correctly installed
Mismatched or improperly fitted tips can lead to air escaping when aspirating and dispensing liquids, resulting in inaccurate results.

10. The correct use of pipettes requires the following principles to be followed
① Slow and smooth pipette movements.
② Hold the pipette vertically when aspirating liquids.
③ When aspirating liquids, only slightly immerse the tip in the liquid. Otherwise you will coat the tip with liquid, which will transfer with the volume in the pipette.
④ When dispensing liquid, hold the pipette vertically but keep the side wall of the receiving container at a 45 degree angle. The pipette rests against the side wall or moves into the liquid that is already present.
